French II is designed to expand upon the linguistic and cultural foundations acquired in French I. This course explores more complex grammatical and conversational structures and introduces more vocabulary terms. In addition, the cultural themes of the first level are expanded as students acquire more advanced knowledge of facts, attitudes, and values reflected throughout the French-speaking world. Through the use of the language lab, group projects, written work, and a variety of learning techniques, we will continually incorporate the five "C"s of the foreign language standards: communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities. RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITE: French I (1 credit)

![]() French III is a continuation of the exploration of the Francophone culture from which students continue to gain an understanding of Francophone people—their language and their life. The grammatical structure of the language is essential for good communication, transmitting spoken and written messages as accurately as possible. There are many opportunities to incorporate literacy through historical and cultural readings, short stories, and writing activities. The four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing combined with culture will continually reinforce one another. Through the use of the language lab, group projects, written work, and a variety of learning techniques, we will continually incorporate the five "C"s of the foreign language standards: communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities. In French IV, an in-depth study of grammar and an introduction to the history and literature of France serve as the groundwork for refining basic language skills while incorporating the five "C"s of the foreign language standards. The primary language of instruction will be in French. Students have the opportunity to practice spontaneous speaking, to improve their listening comprehension, and to perfect their written communicative ability through the use of the language lab, selected readings, process writing assignments, and class discussions. **{515} AP Spanish/Spanish V {12}
In Advanced Placement Spanish Language, students will continue their study of the Spanish language and culture. Attention will be focused on standards-oriented instruction by incorporating the five goals of the Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century - Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. The four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing combined with cultural, historical, and literary knowledge will continually reinforce one another, as students learn to become proficient, independent users of Spanish. Vocabulary building is emphasized and practice activities are used to improve comprehension and refine appropriate usage. A focus on grammatical review and advanced grammatical structures will strengthen the foundation upon which all communication -written, spoken, and aural is based. Students will demonstrate their level of Spanish proficiency through a variety of assessments across three communicative modes: (1) Interpersonal -interactive communication, (2) Interpretive - receptive communication, and (3) Presentational - productive communication. Within the classroom and language laboratory, students will 21 use authentic materials whenever possible. A wide variety of authentic reading material ranging from literary texts, newspapers, magazine articles and online publications will be used along with radio and television programs, and/or other audio or video resources. Students will be required to write for a variety of purposes including reflective essays; formal essays on literary works, cultural and historical events; and topics drawn from magazine, newspaper or online articles. This class will be taught almost exclusively in the target language and students will be continually encouraged to use as much Spanish as possible in the classroom. The Advanced Placement Spanish Language Course is meant to be comparable to a fifth and sixth semester college or university Spanish course. Students enrolled in this class will have the option of participating in the AP Spanish Exam. A score of 3, 4, or 5 on this exam will enable them to attain college credit for this course. RECOMMENDED PERQUISITE: Honors Spanish IV.
