This course is for students intending to take a basic, college/career preparatory chemistry course. All reasonable efforts will be made to cover Structure of Atoms; Structure, Properties, and Interactions of Matter; Chemical Reactions; and Energy. Students will be expected to perform numerical relationships associated with the concepts and chemical reactions involving algebraic processes. The course content is aligned with selected Rhode Island Grade Span Expectations for Physical Science and Earth & Space Science.

This course is for students intending to take a more advanced and in depth Chemistry course. All reasonable efforts will be made to cover Structure of Atoms; Structure, Properties, and Interactions of Matter; Chemical Reactions; Conservation of Energy and Decrease in Disorder; Interactions of Energy and Matter. The course content is aligned with selected Rhode Island Grade Span Expectations for Physical Science and Earth & Space Science.

RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITES: Honors Physical Science, Honors Biology, Honors Algebra I, Honors Geometry. (1 credit)

       
{409} HONORS ADVANCED CHEMISTRY (12)

This honors level course is a general college level chemistry course for highly motivated students who have successfully completed courses in biology, chemistry and physics and have excellent mathematical ability. Emphasis is placed on chemical calculations and the mathematical formulation of certain chemical principles. Topics such as the structure of matter, chemical reactions, kinetics, and chemical equilibrium and redox reactions are considered in depth. Some descriptive chemistry is also investigated, including an introduction to organic chemistry.

RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITES: Algebra II, Honors Physical Science, Honors Biology, Honors Chemistry, Honors Physics. (1 credit)

This course is for students enrolled in the Integrated Math Program intending to take a basic chemistry course. This course will cover topics including the Structure of Atoms; Structure, Properties, and Interactions of Matter; Chemical Reactions; and Energy. The course content is aligned with selected Rhode Island Grade Span Expectations for Physical Science and Earth & Space Science.
