 School Counseling Services

The School Counseling Curriculum follows the National and State standards for school counselors. This curriculum has been approved by the school committee and allows school counselors to adapt to the challenges and needs of students in today’s world. The school counseling curriculum is broken down into three main areas; Academic counseling, Career counseling, and Social/Personal counseling. Students are counseled individually and in small groups in these three key domains.

The School Counseling Office maintains a current collection of college catalogs, Scholarship postings, Military options, and has computers available for student use. Throughout the year, the Department arranges for representatives from educational institutions and industry to speak with all students. Each student is assigned a full-time counselor who works with the student to develop an Individualized Learning Plan for every student. This ILP should be a roadmap of where the student has been and wants to go in his/her life.

Counselors are also heavily involved in the life of the school. Counselors work as Advisory resources, attend Individual Education plan meetings, help write Section 504 Plans, serve as guest speakers in health classes, as well as conducting counseling with students.

This year a Student Support Team (SST) was formed to help ensure quality counseling services at the Junior-Senior High School. The counselors are joined on the SST by the School Nurse Teacher, School Social Worker, and School Psychologist.
