The North Smithfield School Department Office of Special Education Services provides a full complement of special education programs and services, in the least restrictive environment (LRE), in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and HI Regulations, for the identification and educating of qualifying students with disabilities. Diagnostic, instructional (both direct and indirect) and related services are offered as reflected in the student's Individual Educational Plan (IEP). Supporting the North Smithfield Office of Special Education Services are (includes, but is not limited to)
  • professional development opportunities for staff and parents;
  • grant-sponsored activities and services (e.g., student adjustment counseling, after school programs, parent volunteer tutorials, community-based learning, consultation);
  • the Special Education Local Advisory Committee (SELAC).
