Strategic Plan

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to review what is perhaps the single most important “living” document that has guided our entire district’s actions – curriculum work, professional development, technology, communication, special education, budgeting, financial and human resources, staffing, etc.

It is my sincere hope that you will “take a peek” at the information we have provided. The significant components of our Plan are:
 The Mission
 Our Guiding Beliefs
 Our Vision
 The Objectives and Action plans that support them

To the right of this letter, you will find
1) The complete plan called “The Strategic Plan”
2) A brochure we distributed to as much of the community as possible
3) A PowerPoint  “presentation” explaining the planning process and Plan
4) Each individual objective – with their respective titles – that allows you to click on each and view the action plans and progress reports.

A brief comment about the PROCESS of Planning

Our Strategic Planning Process resulted in:
  • A sense of direction and process to effectively deal with change in a proactive rather than reactive manner by
    • Establishing a common purpose, priorities for change, and a blueprint for action.
    • Our district’s preferred future - a long-range direction for the district
    • A clear focus for future pursuits by setting priorities for improvement
    • A process for our district's renewal and transformation.
      • A framework for improving programs, management functions, and evaluation of the district’s progress.
The North Smithfield School District Strategic Plan was the culmination of analysis and work by a Strategic Planning Committee consisting of teachers, administrators, parents, students, School Committee member, business representatives, and community leaders from the North Smithfield educational community.

Our Strategic Planning Process helped us
  • Analyze the district’s strengths and weaknesses as well as the opportunities and “threats” anticipated by current trends and future conditions in a rapidly changing environment;
  • Think and act strategically;
    • Develop effective strategies;
    • Clarify future directions;
    • Establish priorities; and,
  • Build teamwork and expertise.

Mission Statement : Our mission is to prepare each student to be a successful and responsible member of society.
